On  May 9, 2017 , Candice Dunn, a 12 year veteran of the Michigan Department of Corrections, was tragically killed in a car crash on M-59 in Livingston County. Candice was returning home from a banquet where she had just been honored as the Michigan Department of Corrections Probation Officer of the Year.

Highway M-59 in Livingston County will be named in honor of Probation Agent Candice Dunn under legislation signed by Governor  Rick Snyder. She is receiving this honor for her dedication to her career in public service, as well as to her community, friends, and family.

Most recently, Candice worked as an agent overseeing the Urban Drug Court and Sobriety Court programs. She motivated her offenders to make better decisions, which lead to more successful discharges then warrants. She inspired and encouraged her offenders to better themselves, which in turn resulted in the betterment of our community.

She worked hard to better her career and the communities she lived and worked in. Her list of accomplishments is astonishing and a true testament to her character. She organized the Harvest Gathering for Pontiac probation, in which she collected food and cash donations in an effort to make a difference to those who need assistance from area food banks. She organized an adopt-a-family through Oakland Family Services, sponsoring a single mother and her three children. She volunteered for Big brothers Big Sisters of America, in which she mentored a young female to guide her to the path of success. She volunteered to be a part of a countywide group addressing the heroin epidemic. She was a criminal justice instructor at South University in Novi and served as a trainer to her colleagues, encouraging them to use their strengths and abilities to make Michigan better.

Candice was influential and her ambition and her drive to make Michigan a better and safer place will leave an impact.  The “Candice Dunn Memorial Highway” is an appropriate way to honor her memory and her service to our state.

This dream is finally becoming a reality. The final step is to obtain funds to fabricate and install the signs. I am reaching out to her family, friends, colleagues, and community to help with this cause as a way to honor or beloved Candice and give thanks for all her hard work and accomplishments.
