Out of respect, many details regarding Candice and Collin's situation has been kept private. To immediate family only. However there are times where things need to be explained more so others helping truly understand the extent of things. With consent, I share the following.
Let us as family and friends never suffer in silence and never be ashamed to admit when we need help.
Candice suffered with symptoms of her condition for years but was repeatedly dismissed and sent home and diagnosed simply with anxiety. Candice had expressed her concerns to doctors for years due to her mother having the same terminal disease which had taken her life in her early 30s while Candice was only 11 years old.
As Candice became pregnant with miracle baby Cameron, her symptoms became externally visible and finally taken seriously. In April of 2021 while Candice was 21 weeks pregnant, she was diagnosed with primary Pulmonary Hypertension. Candice remained in hospital in critical condition from April 2021 to August 2021. Within those months Candice received multiple life-saving heart surgeries, an emergency premature c-section giving birth to her son Cameron, and before recovering from all of that she received her double lung transplant. Her husband Collin (my brother) travelled back and forth from their home in Midland to Toronto every single day to remain by Candice's side and also remain present to their 13-year-old daughter Caitlyn at home. During this time Collin was forced to leave work and also to spend many nights sleeping in his car in parking lots in Toronto to remain close to Candice. After Cameron was born in June, Collin was accepted to stay at the Ronald McDonald House. He still traveled back home nearly every day for Caitlyn.
As family, friends, coworkers, employers and even complete strangers we all came together and created some financial relief with the GoFundMe fundraiser. This helped them with travel expenses, food expenses, and simply not falling behind on their mortgage during this time so that Collin could focus strictly on being there for his family. The fundraiser soon expired yet the hardships have not.
Candice was released from the hospital only a couple of weeks ago however they still have to travel back and forth to Toronto several times a week for appointments for Candice and also to physically be there for Cameron who is still in the NICU. Candice still needs Collin on a daily basis to help with mobility, being given medications, needle injections, etc and soon to help with newborn baby Cameron when he is able to come home. E.I. is helping to cover only the mortgage and no other bills or expenses. So far they have received no government help for Candice as far as any kind of disability income.
The second fundraiser was created for this. The first one had expired and yet we all still want to help. This is far from over. Let's continue to come together and help this family. No one should ever feel guilty or stress from needing help. Let's help.
