Candi & Cedar Lost Dog Team

Hi, I’m Cedar, the red head, and that’s my person, Candi. We are in training to become a certified Missing Animal Response Network (MAR) search dog team in Minnesota. What is that you ask...Essentially, it’s me being trained to follow a scent trail to assist in recovering a lost dog. I even have my own Facebook page! (https://www.facebook.com/groups/2106949296230582/. We are looking for funding to continue our training, as you can imagine it is intense and expensive. Woof!

Cedar and I hope you will consider helping us reach our goal once you have read our story.

In December of 2017, I joined the Retriever Lost Dog Team (Retrievers). The mission of the Retrievers, an all volunteered based group, is to help families bring their missing dog home and to ensure the safety of stray dogs. My role with the Retrievers is a sleuthhound. What I do is behind the screens. I search various places and report any information to the team working the case.

I wanted to do more. Cedar has a great nose and with some additional training, he could become a great search dog. Cedar and I would be able to help assist the Retrievers with ground searches covering both residential and rural areas. Cedar could show us which direction a dog was traveling when it went missing. Cedar could help us find dogs that are incapacitated, tangled up by their leash, trapped in a pit or well. Cedar is currently training to find dogs that are deceased, their owners would know what happened to their dogs and have closure.

Cedar and I finished our second round of training the beginning of December. He has a great nose and is becoming quite the search dog. Cedar successfully finished a 5-day old aged trail, a positive/negative trail, a negative trail, and a which way trail. We are working on deceased scent and when a scent trail vanishes.

Cedar’s training consists of 10-week sessions and can take anywhere from 12 to 18 months before we can become certified. Each set of classes are self-paced, run 10 weeks, and have both online and in the field training. We want to continue this training, but we need the funding do to so. Help us continue our search dog training.

We thank you for your support. Go team Cedar!
