Candejah’s Road to Recovery

Candejah’s Story

Candejah is 11 years old with osteogenesis imperfecta also know as brittle bone disease. On August 27, 2022 candejah woke up and sneezed and fractured her right femur bone by the motion of her body. She was taken to the emergency room because of excruciating pain which required the administration of morphine and Valium to relieve the pain. X-rays were also done and at that point there was a bigger noticeable problem. The prior rod (femoral osteotomy) candejah had in her other leg (left) had popped out due a bigger fracture. That day we decided to follow up with her surgeon on the Monday. He decided that very day she needed to do surgery to fix that as soon as possible and surgery was set for 9/21/22. Surgery was a task due to the fact of a 2 hour surgery turning into 7 hours because they were not able to place another rod in the bone. Candejah then had to get a plate and screws and things were going ok until Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning when we had to call the ambulance to get candejah due to her being in excruciating pain. When we got to the ER, X-Ray’s had determined that she had broken the bone right below the plate and screws that was just placed in her femur. The dr’s then came up with a plan to revisit the operating table and try to fix the plate and screws by doing a longer plate. They came to terms that it would not be stable enough and wants to try placing a telescopic nail to try to help hold the bone together. Candejah is growing and has currently outgrown her current power (electric) wheelchair. We have purchased several manual wheelchairs out of pocket for school and home use, but We are currently in need of an electric wheelchair that would be able to recline and fold up for traveling purposes and give Candejah the mobility and independence that she needs. Candejah will be going back to surgery on Monday morning 10/3/22 and will not be able to be mobile as in walking for quite some time. We are asking for any assistance with the cost of this wheelchair due to myself being limited with income. We are grateful for anything that would help.
