Candace Tran is a 29-year-old cancer survivor. No one should have to go through that again, however, she has been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma less than four years after she battled it into remission.
She has multiple tumors on her trachea impeding her airway, paralyzing half of her vocal chords and nerves. On top of all of that, her visa is coming to an end.
Before the devastating diagnosis, Candace was attempting to extend her Visa but the process is longer and more complicated than we thought. Because her visa is coming to an end, so is her Medical Service Plan (MSP) coverage. Cancer is an expensive disease to fight. She was told by a doctor last week that she couldn’t fly because the tumors are very close to a lot of blood vessels that could cause serious problems during the long flight. But now they are saying she needs to leave the country as soon as possible to start treatment just in case her visa doesn’t come through in time. They think it is worth the risk.
She needs help and any little bit helps. She needs a last minute flight to Melbourne, Australia. She will also have to set herself up to live once she arrives. This means a security deposit for a new apartment, money for food and rent. She still carries a small debt from her last cancer treatments.
It has not been an easy process so far. For months, she has been battling with doctors to take her seriously and do the appropriate tests. She has been passed from one specialist to another, brushed aside and then passed on again and again since April. She finally has a diagnosis and will start treatment next week, hopefully in Australia. The goal is to ease the financial burden for her to fight this physical and emotional battle that she has already had to fight once before. If they don’t deem her able to fly however, this will turn into an entire different post as she will need even more money because she will be fighting for her life in a country where she has no medical coverage.
Please help if you can. At the very least, please share this message. Thank you.
