Annalee is a beautiful, bright, and happy 4 yr old little girl. A few days ago she was known to be healthy and full of energy. On Nov. 9, 2015, Annalee came home from school with flu like symptoms. The following morning her mother took her to a local Emergency Room for complaints of bad tummy pains. After running several tests Annalee's family was informed that masses were found on her kidneys and she was immediately transfered to Kaiser Permanente Hospital's pediatric unit. The following morning, Nov. 11, 2015, Annalee and her family's lives were turned upside as she was diagnosed with stage V bilateral Wilms Tumors Kidney Cancer also known as Nephroblastoma.
Within only a few days of their new journey, Annalee and her family have been overwhelmed with statistics, survival rates, treatment plans, and life altering drastic changes.
While treatment advances have increased the survival rate for many childhood cancers, it is still the leading cause of death by disease in children.
A few things to know about Annalee's condition...
-The doctors say that Annalee's survival rate is "complicated". 6 weeks after treatment her histology will be determined by favorable or unfavorable. If favorable, her survival rate is 80%. If unfavorable her survival rate is 50%. Because her disease is bilateral her cells are more likely to be characterized as anaplasia, making her histology to be unfavorable.
-About 6% of all cancers in children are Wilms Tumors and of that 6%, 1 in every 10,000 children will have it bilaterally, (both kidneys have the tumors). Making Annalee's disease rare.
-2-3 small legions have been seen in her lungs by both CT and X-RAY. Termed to her family at this time as noticeable "cloudyness in the lungs" and "fluffyness behind the heart". Pending another CT in a few more days, Annalee will more than likely undergo radiation to attack the cancer in the lungs to preserve the kidneys and chemo to attack the cancer in her kidneys.
The family is committed to healing their baby girl! This journey will be a life long battle as she is at high risk of developing a second cancer, including but not limited to leukemia, radiation cancers, and melenoma; as well as long term affects from the chemo including weakened heart muscles and reproductive organ damage causing infertility.
Annalee has a team of doctors dedicated to her recovery. She is in the ONLY open study organized by the Children's Oncology Group (COG). They are focused on Wilms Kidney Cancer, called the biology study. COG is the largest organization that performs clinical research to improve the care and treatment of children with cancer. This team will follow Annalee until she is of the age 18-21yrs . At that time she will be referred to an adult oncologist that will follow her through life.
Annalee's family knows their faith and trust in God is the most powerful source to healing Annalee and diminishing her body of cancer. This journey to keep Annalee alive will be a lengthy and costly recovery process, and so I am asking for your help to financially assist a wonderful family on their new journey to cancer free Annalee.
Your child, grandchild, niece/nephew, sibling, cousin, friend, or any other family member may not be battling childhood cancer- But the day before Annalee was diagnosed, neither did ours... and so I ask you to please share this campaign and invite you to like, follow, and share Annalee's Journey to recovery blog @
