Cancer Warrior: Jacob Spain

Donation protected
Thank you to Jacob’s cousins – Ashley, Tanya and Nicole - for their support & dedication to raising funds for Jacob.  None of this would be possible without their help.

Jacob had his full life ahead of him.  He was 27 years old and had it all planned out….......

He spent 2 years earning his Auto Mechanics degree, graduating at the top of his class in 2018.  While attending school he also worked a full-time grocery job, saving all the money he could.

He was so proud, when in March 2018, he landed his dream job as an Auto Mechanic at the Dodge Dealership in Enid, OK.  With the money he had saved he was able to buy the tools and equipment he needed to be the best there was.

Things were going perfectly.  Just as he had planned.

He adopted / rescued his very own dog, a Great Pyrenees & Grand Schnauzer, and named him Echo.  Echo is the perfect best friend Jacob could ever ask for.

Jacob also decided it was time to make the big move…literally…signing a real estate contact to purchase his very 1st home close to his parents and work.  He had saved enough money to make the down payment.  Escrow was set to close on December 20, 2019.

Life was going good, really good………..and suddenly things came to a screeching halt.

In early Dec 2019, on his way home from work, he was pulled over by the police for swerving outside the lines.  Can you image the fear when police convict you of being “under the influence” and you know darn well you aren’t?

Jacob’s parents immediately took him to their family eye doctor, who recommended a brain MRI.   As soon as the results were in, his family doctor called to say “There is something on your MRI, please check into the Oklahoma City Hospital today!”

So on Dec 17, 2019, Jacob and his parents drove 2 hours to Oklahoma City. It was a very emotional, scary, and apprehensive drive for all 3 passengers. Jacob checked into the hospital while his parents checked into a hotel.

The Neurosurgeons performed his biopsy surgery on December 23rd.    Jacob was left with 27 staples on the right side of his skull.  Doctors said his left side of his body might be compromised because of the tumor on the right side.

Christmas 2019 was spent in the hospital.  His parents got a small tree from the hospital gift shop and made paper snowflakes decorations for his hospital room.

After 10 long long days in the Oklahoma City hospital, Jacob was released on December 26th.   It felt so good to be back home and to see his puppy Echo!

On January 6, 2020 the Doctor removed the staples and shared the brain biopsy results.  Once again, NO ONE expected to hear the Doctor say “The biopsy results indicate you have Glioblastoma brain cancer.”

Jacob had two wonderful visits from family members.  His half-brother and sister came from Washing & Nevada.  The 3 of them got tattoos together.  His passionate Aunt Nadine and loving Grandma Doris came to his side for support too.  During there visit Jacob rededicated his life to the Lord and soon there after was baptized at World Harvest Church in Enid, OK. Jacob continues to put his faith in the Lord and attends church with his family.

Jacob wasn’t able to return to work because he had to begin daily radiation on his brain coupled with chemo pills. He started taking anti-seizure medicines due to the brain biopsy and upcoming radiation treatments.  And he also started taking steroids and a multitude of other medications to keep him strong, healthy & alive.

After 5 days a week, for 6 weeks of radiation another MRI was conducted in mid-April 2020.  All hope was in believing a miracle would happen.   That the cancer was destroyed, eradicated from his brain.  But that wasn’t the case.  The cancer had receded in some areas but not enough to give Jacob a clean bill of health.

Starting May 2020, IV Chemo treatments begin.  Oral medications continue.  Physical Therapy comes 3 times a week to his home to help build strength in his left side.   Registered Nurses come 2 times to make sure he’s mentally and physically going in the right direction.

Today, Jacob is teaching himself to play the Saxophone.    He loves every second he spends with Echo and enjoys gardening.  He is also fully committed to the Lord knowing that God has an incredible plan for for his life.

While Jacob has medical coverage, it’s limited in what expenses it pays for.  Much of his expenses are not covered and that’s why we are asking for your help.

Any donation you make will help to offset the out of pocket expenses Jacob and his parents are responsible for.
