Cancer treatments for Carol

My mother Carol Bowness (Goguen) is many things. She is a world class mom, a fantastic friend, proud aunt, hard worker and a complete badass. She has beat cancer 5x and unfortunately she’s gearing up for battle number 6. To know my mother is to be helped and inspired by her. Anyone who has met her, knows she truly gives herself to others. She’s done so much for so many, and now’s our time to show up, help, and support her.
Cancer has tried time and time again to stop this woman from reaching her goals. Starting in 1987 at the young age of 18 when she was diagnosed with non Hodgkin’s lymphoma. When she was supposed to go off to college she was battling this disease. She wasn’t expected to survive, but she did. The treatments were so severe she was left with permanent heart damage, lung damage, and she was told she wouldn’t be able to have children. Yet again beating the odds she became a mother to three and was able to go back to college and earn her bachelors in psychology (while raising us crazy kids and continued medical struggles). In 2003 (only in her 30’s!) she was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through a double mastectomy. In 2014 she was diagnosed with bladder cancer for the first time. After rounds of treatment she went into remission. In 2015 she was diagnosed with skin cancer and the bladder cancer came back. Two cancers in one year, our girl is a fighter. Unfortunately, about a month ago they found a tumor in her bladder again. A biopsy showed not only does she have cancer again but it is more aggressive and faster moving than before. This time she will need to undergo chemotherapy, a bladder removal, and reconstruction.
She loves her job and her clients at New England Village (a program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities) and is heartbroken that this intense treatment will keep her from going. As you can imagine my mom is used to having her world upside down by now, but this time she doesn’t have to do it alone. She’s fought so hard for so long. Let’s fight for her.
Thank you for every donation, share, comment, and show of support.
