Cancer Treatment, Surgery & Recovery Assistance

When COVID-19 broke out I lost the best job I ever had, working at Storybook Oakland as a preschool teacher. Soon after, I was forced to move out of the house I was living in as it was no longer a safe environment due to risk of COVID exposure in such a densely populated area.
I was fortunate to be able to move to my brother’s property outside of Sacramento, where I now live in a trailer rented by the month.
I started the process of applying for EDD to assist with my living expenses until COVID issues clarified. I planned to return to a safe living situation in the Bay Area and resume my work with Storybook as soon as possible.
However, in the middle of all of this, I was diagnosed with Cancer.
This will require months of treatment and recovery. A surgery has also been recommended which might include a complicated recovery period. I am anticipating that I will be “out of commission” for at least 6 months as my health status clarifies itself.
This also means I am no longer eligible to receive EDD and must rely solely on my Social Security income, which is meager.
My family is trying their best to help me in every way, but I find that I now have basic monthly living expenses which are very difficult to meet. For example, I must keep my car payments and insurance and gas/repairs up in order to get to my medical care. I pay a small amount of rent to my brother for the trailer I live in. I also cover my food and drug supplies.
The funds that might be available to me through Go Fund Me would go a long way to covering expenses for the next 6 months without creating undue hardship for me and my family. I have done a careful and modest budget, just enough to get by with the basics.
Thank you for your support,I have hope that I can get through this health crisis and back on my feet, return to the Bay Area, and get back to my favorite job again.
