Joanna has been a member of the CHAS family for many years. She has grown the retinal scanning program for the past 7 years, into what it is today. She has such a passion for helping and educating diabetic patients that she learned multiple languages, including Spanish and Marshallese, in order to communicate with those most vulnerable to the effects of diabetes! Many patients have returned for early diabetic eye exams due to her care and commitment to their health.
Unfortunately, Joanna was diagnosed with a rare cancer called, Intravascular B-Cell Lymphoma. She is very ill and still admitted to Sacred Heart Hospital. Cancer is never convenient, but it hits especially hard when you are in the process of retiring. Joanna is set to retire from CHAS on December 31st 2023. Treating cancer is very expensive and hard on families financially. We are in contact with her husband and helping him by giving him resources to contact in regards to benefits and financial assistance. However, there's only so much insurance will cover and only so much financial aid available. Joanna has worked really hard to be able to retire and we would hate to see her go into retirement with medical bills preventing her from enjoying the rest of her many years with family and friends.
Please consider donating to a wonderful person that has shown tremendous compassion for our patients and her colleagues!
