Princess Peach has been my best friend, companion, and writing coach for 13 years. She's moved cross country with me twice, comforted me through shitty ex-boyfriends, and coached me through every paper I've written in undergrad and grad school.
Now she has intestinal lymphoma . With the right treatment, the vet is hopeful she might keep my lap warm for another year or two. The expenses to get the diagnosis and begin treatment has piled up really quickly, but I can't imagine being without her.
As a full time graduate student, on top of my teaching and research obligations, I work multiple side gigs to stay on top of my finances and try to pay down my credit card balance in full every single month. We live within our means, but it's hard to save on a grad student stipend
I took out a payment plan with CareCredit for her abdominal surgery to get the biopsies we needed for a diagnosis (ultrasound results had been inconclusive). If I can pay that back within 6 months then it won't incur any interest. Everything else so far has gone on my credit card.
All funds will go towards Princess Peach's medical costs, including medication, tests, and chemo. The current goal only covers costs *already* incurred. I'm not asking for anything other than exactly what she needs. If somehow people give more than she needs, anything extra will go to SPCA of Tompkins County. After all, Princess Peach is a shelter cat herself.
In addition to starting chemo today, she is currently on steroids, an antibiotic, a pain med, and Vit B12 injections (which I give her once a week at home). She pain med and antibiotic should be ending after her post-surgery checkup this week. On the vet's recommendation, we got a digital baby scale this week because monitoring her weight loss (and stopping it) will be a major indicator of how well the treatment is working. In order to do everything we can to give her a fighting chance, we'd also like to put her on prescription food , which is not cheap.
Thank you for reading this and anything you can give, from Princess Peach and I <3
Fresh from the shelter in 2006:

Her normal spot in my lap:

Begging for food while fasting for surgery:

Overseeing my research:

Helping w Hindi homework:

Making sure I know it's bedtime:

Watching the birds:

Her Highness, Princess Peach of Fort Kick Ass

And a less dignified pose...
