Cancer Treatment For My Beautiful Mom

As many of you know by now, my mom (Charmaine) was diagnosed with cancer shortly after Christmas, after being unwell for several months. It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch her decline more and more each day. As much as we were grateful to finally have an answer to all of her symptoms, it certainly was not one that we were wanting or expecting.

By the time she was given the diagnosis, to say ‘time was of the essence’ would be an understatement. Wait times in Canada and treatment options for her cancer were grim. We felt that seeking treatment in Mexico was the only way that we would be able to get her the care that she needed on time. Unfortunately it is quite expensive to seek medical treatment out of country, however I don’t believe my mom would be with us today if we hadn’t. In January, we spent 21 days in Mexico where mom underwent various testing, treatments, and also surgery. Unfortunately the tumour was too large to be surgically removed at that time. She is currently back home on a strict treatment protocol to shrink the tumour until April, when we will travel back to Mexico to have it removed. The approximate cost for her next surgery and treatment will be about $20,000 USD on top of the already life saving surgery and treatment she already had in January.

My mom is my most very best friend and has always been such an active and involved Grammie to my boys and words cannot express how incredibly thankful we are to have more time with her.

We will be forever grateful for her Mexico oncology team as they have provided and continue to provide the most incredible care and have saved her life.

Anyone that knows my parents, knows that they worked very hard their whole lives. To now see them financially stressed in their retirement over something completely out of their control, is heartbreaking for me. Especially after everything they have already been through the last few months. I want to help relieve some of that burden so that they can then just focus on healing from all of this. They are not ones to ever ask for help, so I am asking for them (and hoping they aren’t too mad at me for doing so!! lol). The funds raised will be used to help pay for her next surgery in Mexico in April. I want to thank you all in advance from the bottom of my heart.
