Cancer treatment for Lycan

Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

I find myself writing this post with a heavy heart, a lot of embarrassment and feeling vulnerable as I share our family’s current struggle. Our beloved dog, Lycan, who has brought immense joy and love into our lives, has been diagnosed with cancer. This news has shaken us to the core, and we are now faced with the daunting task of providing him with the medical care he desperately needs.

Lycan is not just a pet; he is a cherished member of our family. His playful spirit, unwavering loyalty, and comforting presence have been a source of happiness for us all. From the moment we brought him home, he has been there through every laugh, every tear, and every milestone. Now, as he faces this serious illness, we are determined to do everything in our power to help him fight this battle.

The treatment plan for Lycan currently involves chemotherapy and medication from Swift Referrals in Wetherby, which he will require weekly for the foreseeable future. Each session comes with a staggering weekly cost ranging from £300 to £400. As we navigate this journey, we have now run out of our insurance cover, so we have been funding this for 6 weeks out of our savings. Leaving us in a difficult position. The financial burden is overwhelming, and our hearts ache at the thought of not being able to provide the care he needs when he is still so full of life.

In light of this situation, we have made the heart-wrenching decision to sell our home. This is a place that we have worked incredibly hard to save for, having only purchased it in May. It's more heartbreaking as we have spent so many years moving with the military and we were finally able to settle in our first home in time for my husband finishing his 22 year service. Our home was supposed to hold countless memories—birthdays celebrated, family gatherings, and countless moments filled with love and laughter. Letting go of it feels like tearing a piece of our hearts away, but we understand that our priority must be Lycans' health and well-being.

As we embark on this unknown and scary journey, we are reaching out to our community for support. We know there are many kind-hearted individuals out there who understand the bond we share with our pets and the lengths we would go to for their care. If you can contribute in any way—whether it’s through donations of just £1, or through sharing this post, we would be forever grateful. I know times are hard for everyone at the moment, so even if you can just send positive thoughts Lycans way, it would mean the world to us.

Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to providing Lycan with the treatment he needs to fight this disease. We are also open to any suggestions or resources that might help us navigate this challenging situation, as we are learning as we go and appreciate any guidance.

Lycan is a fighter who is adored by everyone, and we believe that with the right treatment and the love and support from our community, he can overcome this battle. Our family will remain steadfast in our commitment to him, and we truly believe that together, we can make a difference in his journey toward recovery.

We will keep you all updated and Informed every step of the way, including evidence of the weekly invoices that we pay. If we get to the point where he no longer needs treatment and there is money left, we will either donate this to animal charities and/or we will help pay the bills for others struggling to get care for their own pets.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Your kindness, support, and generosity mean everything to us during this challenging time. We are hopeful that with your help, we can ensure that Lycan receives the care he deserves and we can continue to create cherished memories together as a family.

One final note. As soon as we are in a position, we will donate all the money raised back into this fund pot as a way to pay it forward to others and as a thank you to all those who have supported us in the hope we can help other animals.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Joanne
