John McAuliffe is a respected Irish traditional musician, father, husband and owner of his own construction company. While digging out a basement on a recent job, he suddenly felt weak and nauseous and thought he had the flu. After a few weeks of stressful tests and searching for answers, he learned a month ago that he has a Lymphoma tumor in his brain.
Now, John must focus on healing, while undergoing the rigorous Chemo regimen to overcome his brain tumor. The doctors are optimistic, but there is a very long road of healing ahead.
The chemotherapy plan is:
8 rounds of Methotrexate treatments, every 2 weeks in-hospital at Sloan-Kettering in Manhattan for a duration of up to a week (along with Rituxan, Procarbazine, and Leucovorin) followed by Filgrastim injections for the off-week at home to boost his white blood cell count and avoid infections that can come after chemo treatment. He has already received his first round of Methotrexate two weeks ago and is scheduled to start his second one tomorrow. We hope that treatment will be completed by this fall.
Although he has medicare, there are other financial burdens which have accrued and will continue, such as out of pocket costs for some of the chemo medications as well as an inability to work while undergoing treatment. All proceeds will go to John's medical care, associated costs of travel and medical equipment.
John often says he has so much he has yet to accomplish. When his energy and focus are fully back on track, he hopes to finish his original Irish music composition book and recordings, as well as his carpentry projects.

Our family has encouraged our dad to allow others to help him at this time of need to get through this via this fundraising campaign. We are a close-knit family and each of us has gladly found something to do to help each day, whether staying overnight at the hospital with him or making him his favorite Irish sausages, or giving him a foot massage. Everyone, especially our mother Mag who is always right there with dad, is doing their part but we know there is a financial shortfall and hope that this will help bridge the gap.
We've asked God to guide us. Our dad, John, is also very hopeful and has faith that he can heal. He has expressed how grateful he feels for all the friends and family who have been sending their kind thoughts and prayers too -- prayers are always appreciated!
