Hi, we are Norris, Traci, & our dog, Daisy Seward. We live in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. Daisy is more than a dog to us, she is a member of our family. Daisy has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Treatment is surgery and chemotherapy. The original treatment plan and estimate for diagnostics, surgery, and chemotherapy, were extremely expensive. However, Daisy's amazing care team found us treatment options that were more affordable. Arrangements were made to start treatment right away, as thyroid cancer grows quickly and soon becomes inoperable, killing the dog in as little as 3 months. With your help, Daisy has received the necessary pre-surgery diagnostics, and has had surgery to have her thyroid tumor successfully removed. Daisy would not be receiving the care she needs if you all had not so quickly responded with financial and emotional support. We are so grateful to you all, and so is Daisy Doodle. ❤️
The pathology for the tumor from MSU came back and has confirmed that it is thyroid cancer. Her tumor had a high mitotic count, 8 in 10. The higher the mitotic count, the more likely the tumor is to have metastasized. The more cells are dividing, the more likely they will invade the blood or lymphatic vessels and thus spread around the body. For this reason chemotherapy is recommended. Without treatment, Daisy may live up to 6 months. With chemotherapy, she could live 12 to 24 months. We have asked many questions about side effects and Daisy's quality of life. The chosen treatment has fewer adverse effects and complications than other forms of chemotherapy. The cost for 5 weeks of treatment is $400. We will not know how long she will need treatment until we see how she reacts to the first round of chemotherapy. As long as she is on it she will need monthly blood tests which will run about $175, along with any medications to treat side effects. After having come so far, we do not want to give up on Daisy now. So we are moving forward with treatment. We will reevaluate the situation often to be sure Daisy still has good quality of life. If that is lost, we will be forced to reduce or eliminate the chemotherapy.
With your help we exceeded our initial goal of $2000, and we are so grateful. You all have gone above and beyond. We are raising the initial goal as costs continue to mount for follow up vet visits and treatment. However, we are aware that Daisy has already been so cared for by your kindness and generosity that there may be no more left to give. We are ok with that and we will be forever thankful for the extra time you have given us with her.
