Most of you already know Keoni Paoa, whether it be as a coach, friend, co-worker or ‘ohana.  Recently, I learned the devastating news that no family member wants to hear.   Keoni had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  Unfortunately, it has now spread to his chest, which has prompted his physician to immediately initiate a surgical procedure to remove the affected area in his neck.

  Following his initial recovery, Keoni will have to fly back to Oahu to receive radioactive iodine therapy treatment.  This is challenging because Keoni has always been a hard worker, but he will need to take time off for healing, treatment and rest. There will also be extensive bills for his hospital stay, surgical procedure, on-going treatments and follow up doctor appointments. Because the surgery and iodine therapy will take place in Oahu, there are expenses that will accrue for lodging his ‘ohana who want to be there to support him every step of the way.

  Keoni and my sister (Kelly), are proud parents to my niece and nephews Caleb (23), Kaylee (10), and Jax (7). In addition to being a great father, he also has committed years of his life to the community by coaching little league baseball, Pop Warner Youth Football, and the Big Island Interscholastic Federation; where he coached for high schools such as Hawaii Preparatory Academy and Kealakehe High. He is well known and respected within the sports-youth-community of Hawaii.   We hope to see him return to his passion.  Keoni is known by all for his generosity and loyalty, and will not hesitate to help anyone in need.
