Hello my name is Melissa and I am the proud mother of this astonishing, vibrant, smart, funny, loving, caring and wonderful, wife, daughter, granddaughter and friend to all. She has worked hard her whole life to be a teacher and make a difference in the lives of little ones. She loves her family and friends and puts her whole heart into everything she does.
Her grandmother was recently diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome. This syndrome shows a predisposition to 5 types of cancer , and her grandmother my has been diagnosed with 3 so far. As a precaution, it was suggested that all grandchildren be tested for this gene as well. Katelyn was tested, and unfortunately, she has been diagnosed with a rare genetic gene called Pot 1. It is so rare there are only a handful of people in the country who have it.
POT1 tumor predisposition (POT1-TPD) is
associated with an increased risk for
multiple cutaneous melanomas, chronic
lymphocytic leukemia (CLL),
angiosarcoma (particularly cardiac
angiosarcomas.
They want Katelyn to have extensive testing in Ann Arbor Michigan with a specialist who is familiar and researches this gene. We need to get our girl to Michigan asap! They want her there sooner than later. The more information we know they better chances she has to fight any cancers that she may be diagnosed with. The doctors have advised her that it is not if she gets one these forms of cancer.. its when and what.
This is so serious that she has a large team of doctors in the country who are joining to find the best treatment.
Unfortunately, this is all out of our pocket. Airfare, car rental, and hotel for 3 days is needed to get only one day of testing done. Any help is greatly appreciated. Her husband Eric will be traveling with her.
Katelyn has and would do anything to help a stranger. Please help get our girl the best chance at this diagnosis.
