Cancer SUX! Let’s help the Green family!

The Green family started a journey they never expected to face on August 16th 2023 with one word – cancer. Doug was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck after struggling with a swollen lymph node through the summer. The initial surgery took place August 11th and the diagnosis came the following week, much to the surprise of even the doctors. Appointments, treatment plans, information and emotions came quickly as Doug & Nicole were launched into the fight of their lives. Doug’s 2nd surgery was successful on October 6th and removed both tonsils and 22 lymph nodes from the left side of his neck. The treatment plan continues with 30 radiation treatments starting early November.

As many of you know, Doug is self employed and runs a contracting business with his best friend and business partner. His partner and his father-in-law are continuing work for the clients but without regular help from Doug their production rate is slowed. Due to Doug’s inability to work at full capacity, he is not receiving pay in order to ensure his company is financially stable enough to continue meeting the client’s needs and that timelines are met.

As you can imagine, the cost of cancer treatments are not minimal. On top of the medical costs, Doug faced significant unexpected dental procedures which were necessary to keep his teeth healthy during radiation. It is expected that Doug will be recovering from radiation upwards of 6 months after the treatments are complete. With little understanding of his capacity to work, they are struggling to make ends meet with one income while facing medical, dental and typical monthly bills. With the holidays quickly approaching and Nicole’s need to provide Doug care, this only compounds the situation they find themselves in.

Doug has been a pillar of strength for so many in his community for many years. He has given his time, his words and his hands to serve others. He puts others before himself and now is in need of focusing on his health and recovery.

Many people have reached out to Doug & Nicole to see how they can help and they cannot accurately express their gratitude for the messages, meals, prayers and outpouring of love they have received. This is a tangible way we can give back to them and we are hoping to help ease their financial burden in order to allow them to focus on healing and on their family. Their journey is just beginning and we want to support them through to the end.
