Cancer Surgery for Dick Not Covered by Insurance

Dick & I were taken completely by surprise recently when Dick went to his dentist for routine cleaning & told him he had a suspicious lesion under his tongue, which turned out to be squamous cell cancer.
It took me (Ellen) several weeks of research to find a medical center in the US which specializes in removal of cancer & other lesions from the throat with a state-of-the-art procedure, using KTP green laser. This process removes the cancer & seals the area, so a person has almost no pain, bleeding or permanent dysfunction & is able to go home the same day! The Vocal Center of Massachusetts General Brigham Hospital, Boston, MA (associated w/ Harvard Medical School) is the only center in the US which removes cancer from the tongue area. However, special permission from the surgeon is required.
God answered prayers when the Director of Mass Gen's Vocal Center (who is also a faculty member of Harvard Medical School), took a look at Dick's medical records and decided to remove the cancer. This is a major miracle!
- The challenge we face is that insurance will not cover this procedure because it is 'too new'. We are facing medical costs of approximately $50,000 that must be paid in advance of the surgery which is scheduled for September 19, 2023. Hospital costs will be in addition to the $50,000.
