Cancer Sucks!!! Jackson's Journey
Hello, my name is Jason Ridley. My sister and her family recently moved to Little Falls from the FM area. As they were getting settled in, we received some alarming news. On March 7th, my 11 year old nephew Jackson was taken to the CHI St Gabriel's Hospital with blood in his urine. My sister and Jackson met with a wonderful doctor, named Karilyn Avery where she ordered some tests. My nephew really liked Karilyn and even asked my sister if Karilyn could be his primary doctor. A couple of days later, more blood in his urine. My sister then took him back to CHI where the Dr. ordered a CT and discovered a 4 cm mass on his left kidney. On March 26, 2024 we finally had answer as to why the blood; Jackson was diagnosed with RCC (Renal Cell Carcinoma). This was an obvious shock to our family and sounds like there is a long and winding road ahead of us. Jackson is a fun, loving, energetic kid that loves playing guitar, piano, trumpet and of course video games.
On April 5, 2024 Jackson will undergoe a partial Nephorectomy where the doctors at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis will remove the tumor and part if his kidney. While my sister, Amy and brother in-law, Jeff do have health insurance, it doesn't cover everything. I am organizing this Go Fund Me to assist with additional medical expenses, travel expenses and the time, Amy and Jeff will need to be away from work. All funds will be going directly to the Berg's to help alleviate the financial burden this will cause.
Statistics:
In the case of RCC, around 72% of those diagnosed live for at least one year after diagnosis, about 56% live for at least 5 years and about 50% live for 10 years or more.
