Hi, my name is Jill Critchfield. And this is hard. Some of you may have been so gracious, just five years ago, and donated to help us rebuild our home from Hurricane Florence. For that, we are so grateful. We humbly come to you, once again, to seek relief. Just two months ago I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. I had been struggling with daily functions, as my mental capability to handle daily life had diminished. While some call it “Brain Fog”, I call it exhaustion. Since my diagnosis we have had to travel to the Duke Blood Cancer Center many times. One of the difficulties I have, which differ from other CLL patients, are the many co-morbidities that are going on within my body. Just today I found out I need to have another procedure for something seemingly unrelated to my Cancer. Because I am blessed with so many different, and difficult, health challenges, I am needing to see different specialists on a regular basis.

We are starting this Go Fund Me page to help off set the many expenses we have begun to incur. Michael has been with me every step, which is a blessing. Yet, because he is commission only, when he does not work, he does not get paid. For every appointment he takes me to, every day of work he needs to miss, we are unable to recover that day of pay. While I do have insurance, it does not cover all of the specialists, the hotels, the gas money, food, etc. To be honest, we need help. We do not want to have medical debt. But paying a few hundred dollars every few weeks is beginning to tax our savings account.

If you are able to contribute, we are thankful. If you are not, and care to send a note of encouragement, we are thankful. If you were just able to read this and pray for us, we are thankful. This is going to be a long journey. One of the important notes I try to remind myself is to be grateful for the good days, and even the hard days. God is so good to us- He sustained us through our storm 5 years ago, and we believe He will again.

2025 Update- my cancer has progressed and I am receiving monthly treatments. They alternate location between Duke and the Zimmer Center here in Wilmington. I keep having recurring Super Bug, antibiotic resistant virus, which have really taxed my ability to do some basic things. I am thankful for my husband working hard to keep my spirits up, while caring for our family and attending all of my appointments with me.

I had my 50th birthday on Tuesday. Our son came home from college and our daughter is lovingly by my side.
