Drew Butterwick battle against Cancer wo insurance

If you know Drew, you know he's always up for an adventure and a challenge; however, in this case, he has been dealt a monumental one without asking for it. A few months back, he turned to his Fiancée  and said, "Babe, will you look at this bump on my head." She looked and said, "It looks like an ingrown hair or a cyst. I know you never get sick, but go to my dermatologist to be certain." After two weeks of antibiotics, followed by a "maybe we should do a biopsy" and another six weeks waiting for pathology, the diagnosis came back. It is a scarce and aggressive type of Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He thought it was just a mere scalp cyst when it was a tumor 1cmx2.5cm. As of the 21st of April - it measures almost 7cmx9cm (over 30x its original size in 90 days). Added to that was confirmation from a CT/PET Scan that it is in other parts of the body, including the bone marrow. One morning it was a lump discussed over coffee, and now it's Stage four Cancer. Treatment is a minimum of six months of Chemo and Radiation for weeks to follow. His prognosis isn't excellent, but his attitude is fantastic.

PET CT scans, the hot spots are the cancer.  It had already spread to his bone marrow in his hip.

Drew has been and is self-employed, and in the ups and downs of the past several years, he's been forced into a career change. Covid saw that his fishing lodge in Alaska, which he had owned and operated for the last 15 years, closed for good. Starting a career transition for Drew, and in that transition phase, he dropped his medical insurance to try and cut some of his expenses for the time being. Murphy's law always seems to find a way to ring true, and this was no different. Drew was supposed to have been married in 2020, but again Covid had other plans for him. If they married in 2020, Drew would have had insurance and a much better position to pay for this. Unfortunately, battle proved too much for their relationship, so on top of being in the fight of his life, he now had to deal with a breakup from the one person that was supposed to be his rock and support system through this.

Payments for all of this come out of pocket, and decisions are being made based on these costs. Drew has always been the one who stops first to help someone on the side of the road, help the neighbor fix a chicken coop, or lend a hand to an unknowing tourist stuck in the sand on the beach. Drew's more worried about his family and friends and their worries and stress. He wants to shoulder the burden himself; his problems are his problems. But this time, his problems are more than he can manage alone. Drew keeps saying to everyone, "I got dealt a pair of deuces, but just two more, and I'll have 4 of a kind."
