Hello - I am seeking financial assistance, not for myself but for my dear cousin who was forced to quit her job at Target due to her recent diagnosis of tongue cancer. A little about my cousin Andrea; Despite the obvious, her being BEAUTIFUL, SMART, SO VERY SWEET, and THOUGHTFUL, she was born with a disability, she is hard of hearing. While she can still hear with the help of hearing aids, she is mostly deaf and it is progressive. Andrea finally got pregnant last year with her boyfriend of 20+ years and they were overjoyed to find out they were having a girl. In mid-December, Andrea miscarried at 6 months. It was a heart-breaking stillborn delivery. The doctors did not understand why it happened. However, two short weeks after the loss, she was diagnosed with cancer of the tongue. While all of this was going on, she lost her Social Security benefits as Social Security office stated she was making too much money as a part-time employee making minimum wage at Target. She was then forced to quit her job at Target after many many years as she understood her health came first and needed to have surgery for the cancer. The doctors operated and removed a chunk of her tongue on January 28th. At that point, they thought all was good! Unfortunately, it was not. The cancer became very aggressive, covered her tongue and affected her lymph nodes as well. They called her back for urgent surgery on February 25th where they had to remove her lymph nodes and do a total tongue reconstruction. Andrea stayed in ICU for 4 days where she was in an induced coma. The surgery took a huge toll on her and to this day, she remains in severe pain in her arm and leg where they had to cut skin, cartilage and arteries for her tongue graft. When she was finally sent home almost two weeks later, she remained on a liquid diet for several weeks. She can barely eat still and has a hard time talking. She is going for radiation treatments daily in Albuquerque where she has to travel every day from Santa Fe. While her boyfriend is still working at Trader Joe’s in Santa Fe, they are having a very hard time making ends meet since she was forced to quit her job and lost her SS benefits. She has a mortgage payment among all her other bills. She has had it hard the last few months and she feels the light at the end of the tunnel is dimming. She cannot look for work as her immune system is shot due to her cancer and radiation treatments. She is at a very high risk for contracting Covid-19. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you and God Bless.
