My dad, Mike Grimm, beat cancer once.
He was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of esophageal carcinoma, went through chemo and radiation, and came out the other side. He got to go back to work and start moving forward again.
A few months ago, he started losing his vision. Scans showed two tumors on his brain that were believed to be benign. Then things got worse—his vision declined more, other symptoms started, and a new scan showed swelling and a midline shift in his brain.
He had brain surgery on 4/13/26. We were told it was successful and that the tumor causing the issues was completely removed.
Then on April 29, everything changed. He had his first seizure—followed by more—and was rushed to the hospital. That’s when we found out the cancer was already back in his brain. It was confirmed that the tumor had metastasized from the esophageal cancer.
So here we are.
He’s out of work right now. His short-term disability has run out, long-term hasn’t kicked in yet, and bills are still showing up right on schedule like nothing’s wrong. Love that for us.
On top of that, my mom is burning through all of her time off just to get him to appointments and be with him at the hospital—and is now having to take leave without pay.
What comes next is still unknown, but we do know he won’t be able to work for a while. This is to help my parents cover the basics—mortgage, medical bills, and day-to-day life—so he can focus on treatment instead of finances.
If you know my dad, you know he’s the kind of person who shows up for people without hesitation. Right now, he’s the one who could use that same support.
If you can donate, it helps more than you know. If you can’t, sharing this goes a long way.
