Cancer Research in Honour of Mary Morrison
My beautiful mom, Mary, was diagnosed with curable breast cancer in 2013.
After her first surgery - a lumpectomy - the pathology report showed poor margins and it was recommended that she have radiation to ensure no spread of the breast cancer.
We always knew she was one-in-a-million, but we didn't know she would be the one-in-the-million that would get radiation induced sarcoma in 2017.
The only 'cure' for sarcoma is surgical removal.
Despite many surgeries, some radical and negatively affecting the quality of her life, she was never cured.
She received regular chemotherapy over the last year of her treatment, trying to buy as much time as she could to be with her family.
She pushed back against the odds, and lived another 6 years - enjoying every second with her family - especially grandkids - and her friends.
We are eternally grateful for all the kindness and support all of her care team including surgeons, her family doctor, oncologists, nurses, emergency doctors, hospice staff.
Despite everyone's best attempts, options for treatment were limited to buying-time.
