Cancer Medical Bills for my mother, Penny Gendvil
Donation protected
My name is Chelsea Gendvil, and I'm asking your help to raise money to help pay for my mother's, Penny Gendvil's, cancer medical bills.
She was first diagnosed with Anal Cancer in July 2019. It was stage 1/ stage 2 at the time, and we followed what doctors' recommended to be the standard protocol for her type of cancer at that stage. This was chemo and radiation for 6 weeks in August/September 2019. It made her weak and ill, but her first PET scan after treatment in January 2020 showed that her tumor was shrinking.
She had another PET scan done in April 2020, and not only was it no longer shrinking, but it was bigger than when she first started treatment.
The next step recommended was to have major surgery. On May 1, 2020, she was in surgery for 10 hours, (during the peak of the pandemic), and had the tumor removed, parts of her colon, large intestine, a full hysterectomy, among other things removed, and tissue taken from her abdomen, and moved elsewhere.
The recovery was a long process, and is still ongoing. Her body is permanently changed. It has been difficult enough for her knowing that she has cancer, but now she has to deal with the aftermath of this surgery, the pain, the decreased function, and getting used to her body as it is now (which is still beautiful and wonderful, but not what she is used to or could have imagined happening to her).
We were told that all of the tumor was taken out, however, the pathology report stated that she had positive margins. This meant that they couldn't be sure that every cancer cell was truly taken out.
As an extra precaution, she received localized radiation to the area where the tumor was removed two times a day for two weeks in July 2020. The hope was that if any cancer cells were left behind, this would kill them. This caused a fresh wave of weakness, pain, and feeling ill, on top of how she was already feeling post surgically.
On Friday, November 6, 2020, mom had her first PET scan since her surgery and second round of radiation. We were told that she now has four spots on her liver and one in her lung. This is now considered stage four.
As you can see from the timeline, and how diligent we have been through this process, this cancer appears to be aggressive and resilient.
I am not letting this beat my mother and neither is she. I want to do everything I can to give my mom the absolute best chances to beat this once and for all. That's why I am asking you to help me help her.
She doesn't want much. She wants to grow old, have a puppy or two, take care of her garden, see me get married, and eventually enjoy her grandchildren. She is only 58.
I can't imagine life without my mother. I am positive that she will beat this, and I will make it happen however I can. If you can help us too, we would be so grateful and appreciative. I do the same for my friends, family, and fellow human beings as much as I can, in whatever way I can. Please help us. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Thank you for anything you can give, and if you can't give, that's ok, your kind thoughts and prayers, and maybe advice or suggestions are welcome and appreciated too. Thank you.
