Cancer Journey & Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Dear Friends & Family,
My name is Miranda Morgan, the daughter of Bob and Angie Morgan. I am creating this Go Fund Me to help raise money for both of my parents' recent medical expenses. This year has been a very burdening year financially for both of my parents.
On January 30th Bob was rushed to the ER with severe abdominal pain. After doing some tests they found he had a duodenal perforation which caused an abscess (infection) to form in his abdomen. He was then transported by ambulance to a larger more advanced hospital for additional testing, and IV antibiotics. He stayed at this hospital for eight days - a lot of that time he was in an incredible amount of pain, and could no longer tolerate oral food. He was then transitioned to intravenous nutrition through a PICC line (peripherally inserted central catheter) - which is basically a large IV that can stay in for extended amounts of time. He was discharged from the hospital with the PICC line in place, and planned on doing IV nutrition for several weeks in order to give his stomach enough time to heal.
Several weeks turned into several months. The inflammation in his stomach was not improving quickly. He lost a tremendous amount of weight, strength, and energy during this time. He was hardly able to work, and when he did he came home absolutely exhausted. The PICC line came with a lot of expenses - weekly dressing changes, daily IV supplies, monitoring labs, imaging of the PICC line, etc. IV nutrition is also incredibly expensive, costing as much as $350/day. He required IV nutrition every day for nearly three in a half months.
Between February and March he was hospitalized four separate times due to his ongoing abdominal pain - which we later discovered was pancreatitis. The abscess in his abdomen began to irritate his pancreas, therefore, causing pancreatitis. Each of those hospital stays included imaging, labs, and IV medication for 1 to 3 days. Some of those hospital stays also included an ambulance transfer to larger hospitals.
In the midst of Bob's many hospital stays, Angie felt a lump in her left breast. She went to the doctor and they decided to take a biopsy. On March 7th the doctor called and confirmed our worst nightmare - that it is breast cancer (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma). She had multiple appointments between March and April in order to come up with a treatment plan for her newly diagnosed cancer. Angie opted for a double mastectomy which occurred on May 1st.
Because of this surgery she is unable to work for 4 to 6 weeks, and only receives a small portion of her normal pay. Her recovery process has been complicated by a fluid build up near her lymph nodes causing additional pain. Because of this fluid build up she has had to go back to the doctor on separate occasions in order to drain the fluid. This has made her recovery even more difficult. After the testing from her mass that was removed came back Angie was notified that she would need chemotherapy. We are still unsure how many rounds of chemotherapy she will need, but certainly it will be difficult to do this once she goes back to work full time.
Bob has (thankfully) made progress in the right direction, and has slowly weaned off his IV nutrition and incorporated oral nutrition within the last few weeks. He is expected to be completely done with IV nutrition soon, which will help some of the medical expenses.
Bob and Angie are selfless wonderful people, that would help anyone that needed it. They are not the type of people that would ever ask for help, but currently they feel defeated. This year has been filled with obstacles, and what feels like never-ending medical expenses.
If you would like to assist with medical bills, any donation through go fund me would be greatly appreciated.
On Behalf of Bob, Angie, and our entire family we are so thankful for all of the love, prayers, and support we have received over the last few months. We are so thankful for each and every one of you.
