Loss of a loved one

We were together for 13 years... we had 2 kids together. Now they've lost their mother and I don't think they quite understand that their mother is gone.

It all started with some knee pain. It took her a while to finally go to the doctor... in fact she went in for a stomach virus and I told her while we were already there the doctor might as well look at her knee. She finally agreed and long story short it was bone cancer in the early stages...

When we heard it was early stages we weren't too concerned. Of course we still wanted it checked out. That was around the start of this pandemic. Which made dealing with her issues more difficult because of all the precautions being taken.

As appointments came and went we learned more about her rather rare bone cancer. We decided, based on what the doctor told us, that we would proceed with Chemotherapy. We understood that she'd have a surgery to remove the infected bone mass within 4 treatment cycles. Unfortunately, due to the heavy dosing of chemo, she experienced kidney failure.

Dialysis treatments began and slowed her chemo progress. The first chemo session wasn't so bad... but the second and third were the worst. She also experienced liver failure... by the second time it had spread from her knee to her hip. By the third it had spread to her other leg and her lymph nodes.

We were prepared for an eventuality where she'd be stuck in a wheel chair... we got equipment meant to make her life easier for when she got home. Unfortunately, while home she suffered from an infection in her leg and was rushed back to the hospital. At this time the doctors weren't sure if the chemo was doing more harm than good. It wasn't till her fourth cycle that the cancer had completely metastasized and even spread into her lungs...

The last thing she wanted was to pass at the hospital. We made plans to ensure she'd make it home. We were told at this point it was terminal so we just wanted to make what time she had left comfortable. Unfortunately, it seemed fate wasn't on our side... she had trouble breathing and wasn't very stable. She wasn't even allowed visitors.

I thought maybe for once when I got the call on August 19th, 2020. That I was finally approved as a special exception to see her maybe fate had started moving in our favor. When I arrived at the hospital however, I was told my visit would be limited to 20 min. The other nurses said they would buy me as much time as they could... in the end I stayed 7 hours.i was finally kicked out during the shift change and was scolded for breaking rules set in place to protect me and other patients to limit exposure to the pandemic.

I talked about alot going on with myself and the kids even though she had a breathing machine on. Sadly, she couldn't talk. I was told she looked happy to see me... but all I saw was her sadness. When I finally bid her farewell, I also let her know because I broke their rules I may not be allowed back for a while but that I'd be waiting for her to make it home and I'd send her a picture of the kids once I made it home safely.

After I left, It took a while to get home. But I did as I promised and sent her a photo of the kids as soon as I picked them up from their grandma's at 9:25pm. Sadly, I was called a couple of minutes later and when I asked when she passed... They told me at 9:25pm. She was only waiting to hear the kids were safe with their dad...

Goodbye my kitten, my Starlight, my Angel. May you watch over the kids and I... it'll be much harder now that I'll never be able to hold you again.

Alot of responsibility has been thrust upon me... and every donation helps. Anything will be greatly appreciated. Even if you can't donate just sharing this story helps so much. Thank you for everything.

P.S.
Anything above her cremation cost will be saved and used for her last wish. To turn her ashes into 2 cremation diamonds for our son(6) and daughter(5).
