We had never imagined we would find ourselves in this situation, but sadly, our story is one shared by too many families in the United States. Life took a drastic turn for us recently, one of those stories you usually only hear happen to others, but it has now become our reality.

A few weeks ago, my mother began to feel increasingly weak and sick. Our lives changed in an instant. Maria, who is 65 years old, was admitted to St. Joseph Hospital on 08/16/25 and was diagnosed with one of the most aggressive forms of cancer, secondary malignant neoplasm of liver and intrahepatic bile duct. The doctors suspect that the source could be the pancreas, but their recommendation was not to check any further. Everything we thought was stable and safe crumbled. She spent almost a week in the hospital, and while those days were filled with tests, treatments, and endless worry, what now looms over us are the bills—huge medical costs that are simply impossible for us to manage. My mother has no health coverage, and we are left facing debts that will grow bigger every day.

My mom has always been the heart of our family. She is a loving mother who traveled across the ocean from Poland to the United States, hoping to give me and my brother better opportunities. She has always given us strength, love, and encouragement through every hardship. She never asked for much, always offering what she could to others, carrying her burdens quietly and with grace. To see her now, weakened by illness and weighed down by the stress of financial burdens, is heartbreaking. She deserves to spend her time focusing on healing and finding peace, not on hospital fees and overwhelming bills.

We are doing everything we can to be there for her, but the truth is, we cannot handle this on our own. That is why I am turning to this community, humbly asking for help. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will go directly to covering her medical bills, treatments, and essential needs as she faces this fight.
