Many of you know me by way of my work in the martial arts industry, while others of you know me by my pen name, M.D. Massey. Over the years, I've done my best to help others, give only the best of myself, and never turn away someone in need.

Now, it seems it's my turn to ask for help.

Recently, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of lung cancer. Apparently, I've had it for a year now, which means it's a wonder that I'm still here and still feeling relatively healthy.

However, based on what my oncologists and physicians tell me, my family and I have a bumpy road ahead filled with surgeries, treatments, consultations with specialists, travel, and recovery.

Like most of you, I'm still recovering financially from the pandemic. But, I won't lie, we have great insurance, and I have been blessed with success in my two careers, consulting and writing.

However, I eat what I kill. In other words, I don't have sick leave or convalescence insurance to fall back on during my treatment and recovery. So, I'll be losing income while I'm healing up after receiving the treatments we decide upon.

Besides that, there aren't many treatment options for this type of cancer. For that reason, we're looking at alternatives that, while not cheap, may offer some hope in a rather hopeless situation.

If you decide to contribute, mostly what you'll be buying me is time. Time to focus on healing, time to do what's necessary to recover, and most importantly, time to spend with my family.

None of us knows what the future will bring. I'm hopeful and ready to fight this battle and win. Yet, if there's one thing this illness has taught me, it's that time is so very precious, and you never have as much as you think.
