Cancer & End of Life Expenses-Mick & Marie Welsh

Providence brought Mick and Marie (aka Linda Sue Pomeroy or LS Marie) Welsh together in late summer 2003.

Mick was working for the Audio/Visual department at Glendale Community College while Marie was taking classes and doing work/study there. He had recently made a career change to become a graphic designer. She had left office and call center work behind to pursue inspirational writing. They each had a grown child who had long been a priority in their lives. They both had prayed to meet that special someone. And so their loving relationship began, each honoring the other’s creativity and dedication as a parent. They married in 2007 with his son and her daughter as smiling witnesses. Mick went on to be an award-winning graphic designer and Marie published a book of prayers and has acquired an international audience on Facebook for her prose and stories.

In February 2019, Mick was diagnosed with an aggressive, high-grade bladder cancer that eventually metastasized. He began treatment shortly after the diagnosis while continuing to work full-time at the Catholic Diocese in Phoenix and part-time at his graphic design business.

Marie is retired and Mick, being the primary wage earner, had planned to work until 2022 to help ensure a secure retirement that would allow them to visit family outside of Arizona, take a trip to Italy, and pursue other lifelong dreams. However, the side effects of the cancer treatment forced Mick to reduce his work hours before being laid off in May 2020.

Mick is now in home hospice, as of late December 2020, and medical and end-of- life expenses have continued to accumulate. He's no longer able to do his part-time graphic design work and Marie is lovingly committed to being his full-time caregiver.

This GoFundMe request is urgent to assist with paying off cancer-related and end-of-life expenses, and bridging any income gap once Mick's income is no longer available, so that Marie may have a chance at retaining their modest two-bedroom home while considering other living arrangements.
