My mother-in-law's name is Emi, and she is 53 years old. Her whole life she has been a hardworking woman who, together with her husband, built a simple, stable, and happy life. The funds from this fundraiser will be received by Oscar Saenz, Emi's son and my partner, who helps manage her medical and household expenses.

Today, after 3 years of fighting cancer, they cannot cover the insurance premiums to keep the medication that keeps her stable, which costs over $150,000 MXN (around $8000 USD) PER box, they are about to lose their home due to debts with the bank, and there are days when they have nothing to eat. That is why today we have gathered the courage to ask for help. We do so with humility, with hope, and with the certainty that we can get through this.

Her Diagnosis

Almost three years ago, our lives took an unexpected turn: Emi was diagnosed with stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer (EXON19 mutation). She underwent surgery to extract a part of her lung and remove the tumor, followed by a treatment with a vital but extremely expensive oral medication that cannot be paid for without her medical insurance. Unfortunately, during the surgery, they found signs of possible metastasis in the pulmonary pleura.

Months after the surgery, she suffered a relapse. The cancer had returned. She started feeling discomfort again, and upon taking more imaging tests, they detected another tumor in the same lung and now metastasis in the right lung. Her health deteriorated very quickly. The pain started, leaving her bedridden for weeks, accompanied by intense fatigue and excessive weight loss. Shortly after, per medical advice, she began chemotherapy sessions to fight these tumors, which she still owes money for, since her coverage does not cover both treatments at the same time.

Unfortunately, her constant weakness since the first diagnosis forced her to leave her job to focus on her health. Her husband, who has always been incredibly supportive, lost his job at the end of the pandemic and now, along with my partner, they try to work independently since he hasn't been able to get hired after years of sending out applications. Their projects since mid-2025 have been scarce, and their income barely covers their most basic needs. The youngest of the family had to drop out of school.

Current Crisis

Today, the medical expenses, tests, consultations, and the premiums for her coverage are overwhelming them. There simply isn't enough cash flow to keep paying.

In addition to this, the debt with the bank has been piling up, and they are about to lose everything. Every month that passes, the debt grows, and the possibility of being left without a place to live gets closer. The bank has given them too many chances given the situation, but everything has a limit, and the legal problems are beginning.

The lack of money suffocates them daily. They have no way to transport themselves to appointments since they no longer have cars. It is hard to afford basic groceries. Furthermore, two more family members depend on them: two husky dogs rescued right before the pandemic started, whom sometimes they cannot even afford to feed. This constant financial anguish does not allow Emi to focus on healing; on the contrary, we believe it is consuming her even faster.

How You Can Help

Emi and her entire family have an immense desire to move forward. She feels young, wants to live, grow, and fulfill the endless plans she still has ahead of her. But we have reached a point where it is no longer possible for us to fight against three things at the same time: cancer, the possible loss of our home, and medical debts.

Mi suegra se llama Emi y tiene 53 años. Toda su vida ha sido una mujer trabajadora y, junto con su esposo, construyó una vida sencilla, sin lujos, estable y feliz. Los fondos de esta recaudación serán recibidos por Oscar Saenz, hijo de Emi y mi pareja, quien ayuda a administrar sus gastos médicos y del hogar.

Hoy después de 3 años luchando contra el cancer, no pueden cubrir las cuotas del seguro para mantener el medicamento que la mantiene estable (el cual tiene un precio de mas de 150,000 pesos por caja), están a punto de perder su casa por deudas con el banco y hay días en que no tienen que comer. Por eso hoy nos animamos a pedir ayuda. Lo hacemos con humildad, con esperanza, y con la certeza de que podemos salir adelante.

Su diagnóstico

Hace casi tres años nuestra vida dio un giro inesperado: Emi fue diagnosticada con cáncer de pulmón de células no pequeñas (mutación EXON19) en etapa 4. Le realizaron una cirugía para extraer una parte del pulmón y retirar el tumor, seguida de un tratamiento con un medicamento oral vital pero extremadamente costoso que no se puede pagar sin su seguro médico. Lamentablemente, durante la cirugía, se encontraron indicios de posible metástasis en la pleura pulmonar.

Meses después de la cirugía, sufrió una recaída. El cancer había regresado. Empezó con molestias de nuevo y al realizar mas imágenes, Le detectaron otro tumor en el mismo pulmón y ahora metástasis en el pulmón derecho. Su salud se deterioró muy rápido. Comenzaron los dolores la cual la dejaron tirada por semanas, acompañados de mucho cansancio y pérdida de peso excesiva. Poco después, por indicación médica comenzó sesiones de quimioterapia para combatir estos tumores, las cuales sigue debiendo, ya que la cobertura no cubre ambos tratamientos al mismo tiempo.

Desafortunadamente, su constante debilidad desde el primer diagnostico, la obligó a abandonar su trabajo para poder concentrarse en su salud. Su esposo, quien siempre la ha apoyado demasiado, perdió el suyo al terminar la pandemia y ahora, junto a mi pareja, intentan trabajar de manera independiente ya que no ha logrado ser contratado despues de años mandando solicitudes. Sus proyectos desde mediados del 2025 han sido escasos y sus ingresos apenas alcanzan para lo más básico. El menor de la familia, tuvo que abandonar la escuela.

Crisis actual

Hoy los gastos médicos, análisis, consultas y las cuotas de su cobertura los están rebasando. Simplemente no hay suficiente flujo de dinero para seguir pagando.

Adicional a esto, la deuda con el banco se ha ido acumulando y están a punto de perderlo todo. Cada mes que pasa la deuda crece y la posibilidad de quedarse sin un lugar donde vivir se acerca más, el banco les ha dado demasiadas oportunidades ante la situación, pero todo tiene un limite, y los problemas legales están comenzando.

La falta de dinero los asfixia a diario. No tienen cómo transportarse a las citas ya que no tienen autos ya. Cuesta tener una despensa básica. Además, dos integrantes más de la familia dependen de ellos: Dos perritos husky rescatados justo antes de comenzar la pandemia, a quienes a veces tampoco tienen para alimentar. Esta angustia económica constante no les permite a Emi enfocarse en sanar; al contrario, creemos que la está consumiendo aún más rápido.

Cómo puedes ayudar

Emi y toda su familia tiene unas ganas inmensas de salir adelante. Ella se siente joven, quiere vivir, crecer y cumplir el sin fin de planes que aún tiene por delante. Pero ha llegado a un punto en el que ya no nos es posible luchar contra tres cosas al mismo tiempo: el cáncer, la posible pérdida de nuestro hogar y las deudas médicas.
