In June, I received a message saying "I was reading your old caring bridge the other night and it really helped. I have breast cancer". Most of you know Ann Magstadt of On Site Companies. Ann has been an extremely involved member of AWC and for many years chaired the Membership Committee. If you have talked with Ann through the years you probably learned what an amazing woman she is and I am sure she left you with at least one laugh.
Ann is battling stage II ER/PR positive breast cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy to be followed by surgery, radiation, and years of medication. As with most cancer battles "as planned" is not really a thing. Ann's treatment schedule has now been extended an additional 3 months, taking her battle into 2020. This means she has 2 deductibles to pay for, more time off work, and more unforeseen expenses that someone battling the beast should never have to worry about. She is extremely grateful to On Site. They have set up an office in her home to help decrease her time lost from work. It is risky to be around others when undergoing this type of chemo your immune system being compromised. You need to get a shot just to have your white count increase enough to endure the next treatment.
I learned first hand what the support of family, friends and colleagues can do to ease the burdens of the cancer fight. It isn't easy to let people help and I assure you that you can only have so much food delivered in the throws of chemo nausea. My uncle told me during my cancer fight that "We can't fight the cancer, we can't lose our hair, we can't take the sickness away, the only thing we CAN do is throw money at it".
Well I am asking you all to "throw a little money at it" for Ann. Let's help her concentrate on fighting and surviving! No donation is too large or small and will all be a blessing to our friend.
