Fighting acute myeloid leukemia

Donation protected
Hi Everyone, just a quick update on how Keira is fighting her AML Leukemia diagnosis. The day is finally here for her last day of chemotherapy keira has been such an amazing positive fighter throughout her chemotherapy since September 2024! Keira still has months of recovery but her chemotherapy journey has finally finished. Keira has one more bone marrow biopsy in a couple of months to see how well the chemotherapy has fought off the leukemia but her consultants are positive it's been a success. Thank you for everyone who has contributed to her Gofund me page it truly appreciated

update: week 6 of being in hospital! First round of chemo done. Waiting on platelets and blood count to increase on their own so she can go for a bone marrow operation. The bone marrow will then let the consultants know how effective the first round will have been so can arrange the next round of chemo. She’s had to have quite a lot of blood and platelet transfusions, so she’s quite tired, but still enjoying reading and spending time with her family. We just really hope she picks up so she can come home for a little bit as it would be nice to get out of the hospital.

Edit: Keira is still fighting hard yet has unfortunately started to loose her hair, Felt quite unwell, and an NG tub was required to help her with vital nutrients due to her weigh loss! please keep sharing your support for this, beautiful and courageous girl

My name is Jay. I’ve been a nurse for ten years. When my best friend, who I’ve know since being a child, and who I also convinced to join the NHS, texted me saying her husband had taken their 16 year old daughter to A&E due to abdominal pain, nose bleeds and a rash, I was hoping she was overreacting as we all do as parent sometimes. I wasn’t prepared for the phone call a few hours later to find out my childhood friend’s world had collapsed. I have a daughter the same age, so not only did this hit on an emotional level as a friend, it hit as a parent myself. On the 3rd of September we both celebrating our daughter’s first day of college and the start of their new journey. Keira gained amazing GCSE results with distinction stars, A’s and B’s. Keira aims to study sociology, health and social care alongside A-level English. However, Keira is in the RVI at Newcastle, a week into the biggest fight of her life, kicking the arse out of Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. She is so far had to have blood transfusions with FFP to help with the blood loss and clotting and now will stay in hospital for intense chemotherapy for at least the next 5 to 6 weeks. She has undergone a procedure and now has a PICC line for her chemotherapy. Just yesterday she had an operation putting chemotherapy into a spine and taking bone marrow samples in case a transplant is needed. Unfortunately, Keira is going to lose her beautiful hair very soon. Thanks to the Princess Trust Foundation she will receive a wig of choice. Keira is selfless and just cut all her hair today to be made into a wig for other children like her. Keira has had a rough first week with sickness, fevers, mouth ulcers and really dry skin, as well as vomiting and headaches. Unfortunately, Keira had an allergic reaction to some medication she was given which had to be stopped and fluids replaced, all this in one week! Keira being the positive beautiful person she is is not thinking of herself, she’s trying to stay positive, picking colours for her wig, colouring in books, trying to read in between sleeping and today even did some pottery painting. My friend who I convinced into joining the NHS has only been in her role for a few months, still under probation and so worried and also unfortunately will only receive half of the basic wage for the next two months then this will stop. Her amazing husband, Keira’s dad, Martin, is self-employed and having to commute 118 miles round-trip daily to be with his family. Any contributions would be split between the Princess Trust Foundation and to help this amazing, generously kind family out for this hopefully short period of time. My hope is for Keira to kick the hell out of this AML and after her long battle, enjoy a family holiday. I thank you for your contributions as does the Gawthorpe family.
