I first time I met Adam was in an A&W parking lot. We had never meet prior or heard of one another. Adam was 19 at the time and was on his way to our drytool at a mutual friends house.

Upon getting into the car; Easy was flowing through the stereo while Adam finished a Red Bull. His first words were “Yo dude! You ready to dry tool!” - followed by “oh my names Adam by the way”.

In 2018 I had the opportunity to compete in Denver for Team Canada. It was a privilege and a great experience - a highlight of my 20’s spent climbing. Until now.

That night I saw a new opportunity for both Adam and me. I saw this glimpse of what Adam could be capable of. On the drive home I shared with him my World Cup Experience from 2018 and asked him if such opportunities would intrigue him. His Answer was a short and enthusiastic “hell yeah dude” - and now here we are.

For the past 6 months I have been training with Adam in my home gym. A drytooling cave comprised of remnants of the old Canmore Bouldering Cave and lumber acquired from the past home walls of friends. This space is set specifically for comp training using past World Cup holds, hanging objects with competition tools provided.

This Season Adam has three competitions on his agenda.

Ouray Colorado. Jan 18- 21

Edmonton World Cup. Feb 16-18

Quebec, Festiglace. Feb 21-25

These three competitions will be the predecessor to International Competitions Next Season.

This next part is where Adam could use a little help. Our sport unfortunately has no funding and therefore no “Youth Team” has really been attempted and seen through to fruition. I’d like to change that.

With personal donations or the prospect of sponsorship founds a “youth fund” could actually become a reality. Allowing more youth to gain access to a World Cup event.

The ACC (Alpine Club Of Canada) has offered to support this venture. They will hold and dispense the founds as well as issue tax receipts for larger donations.

Our Goal right now is to raise enough funds to cover Adams expenses; allowing him the opportunity to compete and prepare for International World Cup competitions next season.

A modest amount will make this possible but the sky is my goal. Seeing this fund turn into something more and providing multiple youth with the same opportunity is going to be the climb.
