Canada's 1st addictions treatment for LGBTQ2SIAA

Working in partnership with Simon House Recovery Centre, we will make the Stonewall Recovery Centre dream a reality. Canada continues to be amid an addiction epidemic; we are losing people daily to drug overdose and adverse health effects due to addiction. Sometimes, people slip so far down even if they do not die, seeing a way out is almost impossible.

Stonewall Recovery is about having a safe place for 2SLGBTQ+ to recover from addiction. That safe place is even more critical when you have been misunderstood, abused, thrown away and victimized.

According to Statistics Canada, 4% of the population identifies as 2SLGBTQ+. But, 30-40% of the people on the street are in the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Runaways and Throw-aways, and the latter is the majority. How can we be ok with such a disparity in our society?

Our 2SLGBTQ+ youth are dying at a greater rate than ever before, and the fact that no place exists where they can call home while they recover from the effects of addiction where they feel safe; is a disgrace.

So we can say the government needs to do something; we can say it is someone else's duty. But unfortunately, as time passes, more continue to lose the battle for their lives. So the responsibility falls to each of us; to lean in, to put action to our words of support.

We are creating Stonewall Recovery Centre so that each person has agency in their recovery. Stonewall Recovery provides each person with dignity; it gives each person with a fighting chance. We are teaming up with other charitable groups and have agreements for supportive services once it is up and running.

We have two major hurdles, and this is where every one of you can make a difference, where we can be on the right side of history, be on the side which shows people they are not disposable.

First, we have lost two residences that could have been set-up as residential. However, we found an opportunity to have 50 beds, and we could be ready to go by early spring, but the value of the property is 3.8 million dollars. A second property is just below 1 million; it requires lots of work to get ready and will not provide the same opportunity for numbers.

The second hurdle is operational costs, where we have secured just over 200,000.00 toward the annual budget. We are on our way, but we need YOU. If every person who loves someone in the 2SLGBTQ+ community donated 10.00, we could purchase the property and operate it for at least five years. Saving hundreds, if not thousands of lives.

Stonewall Recovery Centre will accept people from all over Canada, so it does matter to all of you. If you can't donate, forward this to someone you feel can.
