Hi my name is Rebecca and I was the club leader of the Dolphin swimming club for five years. The swimming club is a not for profit community club that was set up in 1972 by a group of parents who could not find any facilities for their children to have access to swimming. I first joined the committee during the pandemic when the original members stepped down. I triumphed through because the club meant a lot to me as a parent as well as a person of the community. I truly believe that young people and adults with disabilities and or additional needs need a space to socialise as well as learning to swim as well as being active. My daughter learnt how to swim there and it felt right to take on the leadership role. During my time at the club we went from having two sessions a week to having five sessions per week that were spread over two sites.
The club was faced with unforeseen legal action, which it is now having to defend. The club completely rejects the basis of that legal claim which it believes is entirely without foundation.
The club is unable to afford legal costs and we do not want this to affect the club or it's members.
Myself and an ex committee member are acting as club representatives because we strongly agree against the claims being made but we are persevering to save the club and all its members.
This club has helped so many members of all ages to swim, learn a new life skill and or to socialise. We will not give up on them or this club and we stand strongly on our beliefs that this club is amazing.
