Unexpected Medical Bills and Loss of Income

We’ll Get by With a Little Help from our Friends!

I’m very sorry to say that we are in a real bind and need help from our friends who are able to help. I’m asking you to prayerfully consider helping our family get out of the deepest financial pit we’ve ever been in. ANY amount God would place upon your heart to give would be very, very much appreciated.

Up until last year, I was able to pastor my small congregation plus work two part-time jobs to make ends meet. Unfortunately, due to my health crisis this year, and the resulting inability to work nearly as much or as regularly as usual  for several months, thus far this year, we have experienced a loss of over 25% of our income.

At the same time, even with having BCBS insurance through my school bus-driving job, my health issues this year, with two ER visits for panic attacks where I truly thought I was dying but thankfully didn’t, numerous doctor’s visits, major surgery two months ago to repair my rotator cuff and biceps tendon, the recovery from which has been somewhwre between a bad dream and  a waking, walking nightmare, now experiencing panic attacks, etc., etc., we have unfortunately racked up thousands of dollars in medical and surgical bills, while also having been in middle of getting very necessary orthodontic and dental work done to repair my youngest son Elijah’s  cleft palate birth defect. Our brave little man will require several more surgeries and procedures over the next few years in order to give him as normal of a mouth, nose and teeth as possible, and these procedures cannot wait, as they must be timed according to the natural growth of his face, jaw, nose and mouth.

I am presently looking for a better-paying second or third job so that I can better provide for my family, while hoping my anxiety attacks will resolve on the medication I’ve been prescribed so that I can work hard and handle the long hours like I used to.

For most all of my pastoral ministry, I have always worked one or two outside jobs in order to make ends meet, oftentimes working 40 or 50 hours per week at non-ministry jobs in addition to pastoring, but this year has just been the hardest year ever. We have always driven old cars, all but one of which are paid off, our kids happily wear hand-me-down clothes, and we are cutting back in every way we can think of.

If you cannot or do not wish to give, I completely understand. Please forgive this request if it offends you or makes you think poorly of me. I feel I am in a deep dark pit and can’t see a way out right now, even though I trust God has a good purpose in the midst of all this. I do believe He will see us through someway, somehow, perhaps with part of that way out being “a little help from my friends,” like the old song says.
