UPDATE! Blinko is home! The doctor originally said 4 days in the ER was optimistic. She beat those odds and came home in 2.5 . There is still a long road to recovery, and she is not out of the woods yet. She’s getting round-the-clock care at her foster home and has at least 2 follow-up appointments/xrays. Thank you for your donations, prayers, and love of sweet Blinko. She’s a fighter!

Blinko is our beloved foster dog. She is living with us while we find her forever home. She was a healthy, happy, regal cattle dog mix. You can imagine our shock to find ourselves praying for her survival as she currently receives oxygen and medical care at an emergency vet.

In January, Blinko finished 2 rounds of antibiotics for a head cold. After we isolated her for 2 weeks, she felt great: romping and playing and not showing any symptoms for over a week. Her foster brothers and sisters were so happy to have her back.

This past Monday (February 5th) She ate her breakfast, and unexpectedly started gasping for air. We dropped everything and rushed her to the ER, where X-rays confirmed the beginning stages of pneumonia. Apparently, the residual “crud” from her head cold weeks before took up residence in her lungs.

The emergency vet gave her anti-inflammatories, anti-nausea, a third antibiotic , and 2 nasal cannulas (breathing tubes) since her oxygen was low. She has now been hospitalized with 24/7 care and treatments for 2 days. The bill is already over $5000 – we cannot afford it, but we also cannot afford to lose Blinko.

Our shelter resources are stretched thin, and there are dozens of other dogs needing medical treatment. As our foster, we want to make sure Blinko has the best chance at survival, so we are currently paying out of pocket for her care.

When we take on any foster, we cover their expenses: food, supplies, vet bills, etc. I don’t spend my money on the small luxuries that others might choose to; I choose to spend it on our dogs, permanent or foster. Unfortunately, Blinko’s intense needs have blown through that small budget, and we are asking for your help.

If anyone is able or willing to help us cover Blinko’s medical bills, that would be a huge blessing to us and her. First and foremost: we need to get her stabilized and healthy .

Blinko is no one’s dog and everyone’s dog. Can you help us continue to get her the care she needs ? Any amount helps!

Sidenote: I told the ER doctor that Blinko had been around other dogs and asked if that was a concern. She said since she finished 20 days of antibiotics and was asymptomatic, the chances of her spreading anything to another dog were slim. We continue to disinfect our daycare daily, as we do regardless .
