Can You Help Kari Sinkula?

Kari is a wife, mother, sister, friend, and hairstylist extraordinaire.  Doing hair is her passion and she has a successful business and loads of clients who are faithful to a fault.  In September, Kari was forced to shut down her business to begin a new challenge and to fight a battle she never asked for.

In August, Kari noticed some lumps at the base of her neck, up near her shoulder.  After a chiropractic massage, they seemed to become smaller, but then came back.  Kari has been seeing Dr. Cristyn Watkins at aNu Aesthetics and Optimal Wellness for several years and, luckily, it was time for her semi-annual visit when the lumps came back.  Dr.  Watkins didn't like the looks of them and sent Kari for an ultrasound, which resulted in biopsies.  The diagnosis is that Kari has a rare form of breast cancer called Inflammatory Breast Cancer.  It's rare, it's aggressive, and it was stage IV.   It might not show on a mammogram and is 1-5% of all diagnoses.  Don't Google it because you won't like what you read.  Within 13 days of her diagnosis, Kari was on chemo treatments bi-weekly, which she did for two months.  She is in the process of her next chemo round, which will last for four months.  Next comes a mastectomy surgery and, after recovery, remission.

Dr. Watkins practices functional medicine and has a wellness program at aNu that has been life-changing for many people, include Kari.  She has made a huge difference in Kari's health and, to be honest, overall life when Kari began seeing her three or so years ago.  Dr. Watkins' treatments are typically not covered by insurance because they are not "traditional".  Kari has been able to have an IV treatment at aNu that has made a world of difference in the chemo side effects.  The treatment includes ozone and PRP (platelet-rich plasma), which helps to build and strengthen the red blood cells while her white blood cells are being ravaged by chemo.  In addition, Kari's higher energy level and lack of side effects (nausea, etc.) can be attributed to the treatment.  She wants to continue taking the IV treatments, but the ongoing cost is prohibitive.

Many of Kari's friends have asked what they can do to help Kari and her husband Jerry while they are battling this disease.  Jerry is still working and will be taking FMLA once Kari has her surgery and a couple of friends have been helping to take her to appointments so Jerry misses as little work as possible.  Kari has to keep her contacts to a minimum because of her compromised immune system.  A friend suggested setting up this page in an effort to collect money to assist Kari's family with paying for her IV treatments that are not covered  by insurance.  Any residual amount collected will be used for meal services once Kari has her surgery and Jerry will be too busy to be concerned about cooking.   The donations also help with the loss of Kari's income that she and Jerry are now experiencing.

If you feel inclined to donate, please know that Kari and her family sincerely appreciate anything you can do to help.  If you can't donate, we'll take your prayers for a successful treatment regimen and health recovery for Kari.

Thank you!
