Hi, our names are Thomas and Emily Conneely, and we are fundraising on behalf of our mom Eilis Conneely.
On the 7th of February, Eilis was rushed into hospital via ambulance due to suddenly losing all sensation in her legs; once she arrived at a&e, she was rushed into her first surgery out of 5 in 48 hours. After running multiple tests, they discovered that Eilis has a rare blood condition that lead to extreme blood clots in her legs, causing there to be no blood flow or circulation to her legs. Eilis was then rushed into surgery to try and remove these blood clots; while they were successful in removing the clots from her upper legs, unfortunately they were unable to remove them in the lower half, they attempted this surgery three times and each time it was unsuccessful.
On the 9th of February, we received a devastating phone call from mom's surgeon telling us that she would have to have her left leg amputated below the knee, this was a huge shock for us and all of the family, but we accepted it because we just wanted her to be pain-free again, unfortunately a few hours after the first phone call we received a second call informing us that she would have to lose her right leg below the knee and her left leg above the knee.
Mom spent five and a half months in GUH on st Nicholas's ward and was then moved to Merlin park rehabilitation unit, where she spent a further two months; she is now home for a short period whilst waiting for a place in Dun Laoighre, where she is hoping to receive prosthetic legs.
Who is Eilis Conneely?
Eilis is a single parent to two children Thomas and Emily , who is originally from Inverin and is now living in Spiddal. Eilis worked for years as a home help and also worked as a healthcare assistant in Aras Chois Fharraighe for five years. After years of Eilis helping the people of the community, we think it's time we help her; all money donated will be going towards Eilis's recovery.
