In June of 2020, my daughter Camryn was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney failure at the age of 19 years old. A year ago, Covid was a very new and scary virus and, unfortunately, it prevented Camryn from getting thorough, knowledgeable, or quality healthcare from her original nephrologist . After months of tireless doctors visits (online), phone calls, paperwork, and loss of more kidney function, we were finally able to get Camryn an amazing kidney specialist that has us on the right track! Camryn is in need of a kidney transplant and has officially been put on the donor list. She has been referred to Seattle Swedish for the transplant. I am currently undergoing all the testing to HOPEFULLY donate one of my kidneys. Due to Covid, the doctors from Seattle no longer make their quarterly visits to Boise, so we are required to travel to Seattle to meet Camryn’s donor team in person and progress to the next step in the transplant process. Thankfully, Camryn’s insurance covers many of the transplant expenses. But, kidney failure comes with lots of missed work and doctors appointments and, now, traveling expenses for us. Many people have asked how they can help. We have been surrounded by love and hope and prayers and hugs.... thank you so much! Besides prayers, this is all I can think of. I am asking for your help, please, in easing the financial worries and stresses that accompany such a life changing procedure. Camryn and I will be traveling to Seattle for all of her pre-transplant appointments. And after her surgery, we will be required to stay in Seattle for 6 weeks. Most people return to work approx 3-6 months after a kidney transplant. A transplant is a major and terrifying surgery, but we are sooo grateful that Camryn has been given the chance to get a new kidney and live a long happy life.
