I’m Lauren, I’m currently doing my A-levels at sixth form and my school have offered a once in a life time trip…
I have been given the incredible opportunity to go to Borneo, Malaysia with Camps International in July 2026. During the 3 week expedition I will take part in activities which will benefit the local environment, wildlife and communities. I will learn about diverse cultures by working on projects with local residents who want to share their unique way of life. These projects will also teach effective sustainability and conservation. There is an adventure element to the trip as well where I will complete a PADI open water scuba diving course.
This trip is an amazing opportunity but part of the challenge is to take on the responsibility of fundraising the cost ourselves.
Initially, my first fundraising event was a half marathon but unfortunately I wasn’t able to run it after needing ACL reconstruction surgery. I still have a strong desire to complete a half marathon however it has to be delayed for the future…
Still wanting to take on a physical challenge, I have adapted my fundraising attempt to suit my rehab process. As part of my physiotherapy post operation, I am now able to use an exercise bike so I have began my new challenge of cycling the distance to Borneo which is 11,262km (7000 miles). This will require consistency and determination over the next year but my rehab will be progressive and I will be in Borneo in no time! Any sponsorship you are able to donate to help me achieve this goal would be hugely appreciated.
Camps International have 20 sites around the world and offer once in a life time experiences. I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to contribute to the extraordinary work they do.
