Who We Are:
Camp Impact was founded in 1996 as a social action project. The 30 or so original teens started planning for a weekend long summer camp they decided to call Camp Hope. Those two days at Camp Hope proved to be an enormous success and made such an impact on the campers and staff that they thought it would only be appropriate to rename their project to "Camp Impact" the following year. Since then, Camp Impact has become an annual event that has enriched the lives of nearly 1,600 kids over the past nineteen years. Camp Impact has also received national recognition through several organizations, and is a recipient of the Fain Award for Outstanding Social Actions Program.
Who We Serve:
Every summer we host more than 100 campers from 1st through 6th grade. Our campers are referred to us by social workers from local shelters such as SafeHaven of Tarrant County, The Arlington Life Shelter, Brighter Tomorrows, and Title 1 elementary schools like Webb and Bonham Elementary. Unfortunately, a lot of the children we work with never get to see outside their world of abuse or hardship.
The Issue:
The campsite in which we host Camp Impact is undergoing construction this summer. This presents an upside and down side. The upside is that next year, we will have a much nicer campground to host Camp Impact. The downside is that the campsite's swimming pool will be out of commision this summer.
The Solution:
Luckily, there is a swimming pool near our location that would suit us perfectly. However renting the pool out will add a previously unforseen strain to our budget. With support from good-hearted people such as yourself, we can continue to provide these kids with their favorite Camp Impact activity.
