A memorial service for the most amazing husband, father, and friend we all know as Jason Campbell will be held Saturday, November 10th at Clifford Baptist Church in Amherst County. Service will begin at 11:00 am.
***Update 11/2/18***
Jason joined God this morning at 10:38 a.m. eastern time. He was surrounded by his loving wife, family, beloved friends, and their Pastor, Pete. Stephanie and family appreciate all the prayers, love and support. Please continue to lift this family with your prayers. She requests privacy at this time. Please feel free to share a message on here for her.
“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills,
From whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which
made heaven and earth.
He will not suffer thy foot to be movers: he
that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither
slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy
shade upon thy right hand.
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor
the moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil:
he shall preserve thy soul.
The Lord shall preserve thy going out and
thy coming in from this time forth, and even
for evermore.”
(Psalm 121)

Hello everyone! First and foremost let me say thank you, from Jason and myself, for all of the positive thoughts and prayers. We are far from being out of the woodwork, so please continue to intentionally pray.
Monday night we had quite the scare. I was on the way home from McKenzie's dance class when Jason called in a panic that he did not feel well. I rushed in, sending the kids straight to the basement, because I did not know what I would find. Jason said he felt like he could not breathe and he was in pain. He asked for his liquid morphine, which caused him even more distress. We sent a message to his doctor, sent the kids next door, and headed toward Charlottesville. We needed to get gas, and while we were there we got a message back from his new oncologist who told us to take more pain medication and see if that would help. During this I was also using an oximeter to check his pulse and oxygen saturation. They were better than they had been but still not in normal range. We returned home where Jason took a pain pill at 7ish and again at 11ish. Throughout the night, I checked on him as he slept in the living room recliner. (The recliner provides him the best comfort for posture, breathing, and pressure.)
Tuesday morning, we woke up and drove to Charlottesville for Jason to have a catheter put into his abdomen. This will allow us to drain him on an as needed basis. This will help, we and the doctor hope, to alleviate pressure to help his breathing and increase his appetite. The procedure was delayed but it went well. We can only drain up to a liter a day. Jason was worried about his breathing/respiration and did not want to be sent home until he was able to see his oncologist at UVA. We, my dad and I, wheeled Jason across to the other building to see his oncologist. He was not worried about his breathing. From there, a ton of questions came up.
Can we increase the frequency of Jason's pain medication?
-Yes, moved up to every three hours instead of every four hours. However, we need to be careful since pain medication can decrease motility and he already has issues with that.
Will the ascites proclude him from clinical trials?
-No, ascites is not the issue. It is the bilirubin. He cannot be in a trial with his current levels. (The last reading, we know of, was 1.2) We need to get the cancer and liver under control before we can even consider it.
So, when should we start the Stivarga?
-He would like Jason to start the Stivarga tomorrow if he is feeling better. However, he thinks it would be best to start at a low dose, possibly even lower than the REDOS escalation trial.
Jason is weak and does not feel he can walk on his own. Would hospice or a home health nurse be a good idea? What about a walker?
-He likes the idea of hospice and is putting in a referral for it. A walker is a good idea.
I have a friend from work giving us a walker and giving us a recliner so Jason can be comfortable sleeping in our room and sitting in the living room, allowing him to be around the children.
Jason told me this morning his main goal for this day was to eat; and then I asked about his pain (because he was in a fair amount). So he said his two goals are pain management and eating. He still can only eat small meals so if you have any high calorie recipes with good fat, protein, and low salt please share with me.
We have not done his first home drain yet, but will likely do it later today.

Jason Campbell is a husband, a father, a son and a beloved friend who has been battling stage IV colon cancer since March of 2016. Jason is a fighter and his wife, Stephanie, has been in his corner fighting right along side with him. Jason has beat the odds and defied the timelines set before him by doctors. He is a strong, resilient man that refuses to give in to the monster of cancer.
Over the last few months Jason and Stephanie have been on many rollercoaster rides. As a child, Stephanie hated rollercoasters. She's been on this rollercoaster and braved every turn and hill with her beloved husband. These rollercoasters have been a burden on their family. They have two amazing, small children: McKenzie (7) and Keegan (4). Both Stephanie and Jason have missed work and will continue to miss work in the future as they brave this rollercoaster called cancer. Jason's deductible for insurance has reset. And the cost of his monthly medication is that of a small used car. We would like to ask you to reach into your hearts and not only pray for this wonderful family; but also make a contribution to help them financially in the weeks and months ahead.
