Camp RYSE 2021 Remix & 2022 Fundraiser!

Tax deductible
Camp RYSE's mission is to foster joy among refugee youth through five weeks of literacy, learning, and laughter. Every year, we rely on generous donations to purchase supplies and resources for students and pay staff.

During COVID, we have had to close Camp for a year but WE ARE COMING BACK! This summer, we will hosting a limited in-person version of Camp designed to re-build community and make space for kids and families to reconnect with our amazing Camp RYSE family! We will be fully re-launching in Summer 2022 so your support this year will determine our success this summer and beyond!

Camp will consist of at least 5 community events with our families, including sports events (soccer), art activities, picnics, swimming days, family cookouts, community performances and cultural dances, amazing cultural food, and fun learning activities for all age levels!

Fun Facts About Camp RYSE:

- HUMBLE BEGINNINGS: Camp RYSE was founded in 2011. Back then, camp was thirty kids and a few college students meeting for half days in the basement of St. Michael's Church on Oxford Street, reading photocopied books, and going to the park to play. We were small, scrappy, and full of joy.

- AMAZING STUDENTS: Our campers come from all over the world and speak over 15 different languages Swahili, Kirundi, Kinyarwanda, Arabic, Farsi, Spanish, Karen, Burmese, Nepali, Hindi, French, Sango and Kunama.

- AMAZING STAFF: The majority of our staff are Camp alumni - high school and college-aged refugee youth representing the identities, lived experiences and language skills of our youth. Our staff are almost all people of color and first or second generation immigrants.

- YEAR-ROUND LOVE: Most of our campers become tutees in our partner program, BRYTE (Brown Refugee Youth Tutoring and Enrichment). BRYTE matches kids to college and graduate students for one-on-one, in-home tutoring and mentoring during the school year. BRYTE has about 200 tutor-tutee pairs!

- IN THE NEWS: Many people have written wonderful things about Camp RYSE (formally known as BRYTE Camp) and BRYTE. You can read about one here !!
