When my mother passed away from Stage 4 non-smokers lung cancer in 2012, our family was forever changed. Years later, as a freshman I discovered Camp Kesem and knew immediately this was something special. I later became a camp counselor in 2017 and saw firsthand how healing a week of joy, acceptance, and community can be.

Camp Kesem gives kids a chance to be kids again. Through free, creative programs and a caring community, campers can laugh, play, and form friendships with others who truly understand what they are going through. As a counselor I watched campers find confidence, resilience, and hope—sometimes for the first time since their parent’s diagnosis. Those moments of connection and fun are as powerful as they are simple.

Kesem’s mission is close to my heart: supporting children through and beyond a parent’s cancer. Every camper receives a memorable week and a lasting network of support that carries them forward. Knowing how much this mattered to my family drives me to keep giving back so other kids don’t have to face these challenges alone.
