This is my nephew, Cal Fire Engineer Josh Fisher actively fighting the Camp Fire in Paradise CA. This photo captures him on the fire front on Thursday, November 8th, 2018 sheltering in place with his crew of three and 50-60 cars loaded with civilians in a parking lot, while the fire had them surrounded on the corner of Billie and Pentz roads.
Josh worked nonstop from November 6 to November 12 and was then taken off duty because he was "displaced".
The home he shared with his wife, Holly and their two children, Lucas and Sienna did not burn to the ground, but was heavily fire damaged. The workshop Josh built on the property and the garage and yard are gone along with every house in their neighborhood.
They are unable to access the house for an unknown amount of time, possibly a year or more. There is no water or power to the town of Paradise and all utilities must be revamped and reinstated before people can return to live. Since the house burned but is not completely gone, insurance payouts are a long way off pending evaluation of a home that cannot be accessed.
While Josh worked as a firefighter, Holly worked as an RN in labor and delivery and postpartum at the Feather River Hospital. Since FRH suffered fire damage and is in the town of Paradise which was essentially leveled, her job status is up in the air.
The Children's Community School burned; Sienna's kindergarten and Lucas' second grade classrooms are gone.
Josh and Holly and their children are currently staying with family in the Chico area. They have a long road of uncertainty ahead.
