What is Camp Dawn?
Developed through a collaboration of agencies, associations, and survivors, Camp Dawn is a
camp in southwestern Ontario for adult survivors of acquired brain injury. For many brain injury survivors, the path to recovery is much more than following a rehabilitation plan, it's grieving the loss of the life they once knew. This can include the loss of motor skills, the loss of memory, and the loss of the roles that make a person unique both personally and professionally. But the largest loss of all can be the sense of belonging. Camp Dawn is a place where this belonging can be found again amongst other campers who are walking a similar path.
Camper Katie M says "I am so excited about Camp Dawn! Can't wait for the whole camp weekend!"
Why GoFundMe?
Outside of camp, most of our volunteer team is dedicated to the acquired brain injury population on a personal or professional level. Each year, the team works hard behind the scenes to organize and raise money to keep costs as low as possible for campers.
As we all know, life has become increasingly more expensive over the past few years. Camp Dawn is no exception. This year we will have to increase our camper fee significantly. Our campers come from various backgrounds, often facing barriers to employment, being marginalized, and most receiving funding through government-sponsored programs. As a result, increased costs are an even more significant barrier to survivors participating in what, for some, is their only opportunity to get away for a weekend this year. A weekend filled with friendship, fun, encouragement, and inspiration.
Please help support us continue to offer the best program for brain injury survivors in the country!
