Camp Bruce McCoy

Tax deductible
As many of you know, 10 years ago we were invited to take part in Camp Bruce McCoy. Little did either of us know, it was the start of a lifetime friendship, adoption of a second family, and would become a centerpiece of meaning and purpose in our lives. Every year, this program gives us the opportunity to re-center, reset, and give ourselves to something much bigger than either of us.  This is where I found my career as an OT (Dana) and where I was able to gain an appreciation for the complexity of caring for those with a chronic disability which has helped me throughout my path in medical school (Brandon).

If you are not aware, of Camp, here is some extra information about what we do. Each year, the Brain Injury Association of Virginia (BIAV) hosts Camp Bruce McCoy, a residential camp for adults living with brain injury (18 years and older). It is is designed to provide the best recreational opportunity possible for the campers, many of whom are home-bound or in long-term care facilities the remainder of the year.  Camp activities include; horseback riding, archery, riflery, fishing, canoeing, swimming, climbing wall, challenge course and arts and crafts.  Each week’s evening events are exciting and diverse and include a modified softball or kickball game, a dance, karaoke night, and a campfire complete with talent shows and s’mores. Counselors will work with groups of campers, help run activities and most importantly, be a friend.

Last year,  we (Brandon and Dana) were collectively able to raise over $2000 to donate to supporting this program. This year, we decided to join forces and raise the bar to $2500. We would be eternally grateful if you can find your way to supporting our effort- no contribution is too small!
